Robert Wheeler: a REAL trainee with Doug Kenworthy. These pictures
show Robert before at 395 pounds, and after at 297: almost a 100 pound loss in just under 8 months!
In December 2005 my family doctor referred me to a Gastric Bypass Specialist to help me get my weight to a healthy level. I weighed in at over 395 pounds and was on medication for High Blood pressure and High Cholesterol. I had bouts with Gout and other joint pains in my knees and feet constantly along with Chronic Heartburn after eating. After researching and conferring with family and friends, I decided against the operation and instead, with the support of close friends and business associates, opted to try for one year to exercise and change my eating habits and if at the end of that year I had no better results, then I would go and have the operation.
On February 1, 2006 three of my co-workers and myself joined the Fit Stop run by trainer Doug Kenworthy. I went in fully committed to make this work, I knew it wouldn't be easy cause if it were I would have done it before now. I had tried diets and pills before but no exercise with no long lasting results. Exercise is the biggest change I've encountered in 46 years of my life. In the first two weeks my muscles were aching so bad I thought of quitting a couple of times. Like I said before, if it was going to be easy I would have already been doing it. I made it through the first month with great results losing over 35 pounds. The aching muscles were all of a sudden getting more firm. My one minute and fifty eight seconds on the Elliptical went to five minutes then ten. Through Doug's unique integration of 30 minutes Cardio mixed in with weight training everyday, I was able to go from taking over 15 minutes to do a mile on the treadmill walking to about 10 minutes jogging now. I can now do an hour on the Stairmaster, elliptical and the treadmill. I am off Blood pressure medication, Zocor and I no longer have heartburn. On February 1, 2007, my one year anniversary, I am proud and happy to say that I have lost 115 pounds and I am still going to the gym six days a week for about and Hour and a Half each day. Yes, you have to make time to do it. No, it is not easy, but, it is possible and I am living Proof. The alternative was a risky operation or worse death. I hope to continue this trend for the rest of my life. Thanks to my co-workers Wesley, Jeremy and Sherri for their support and thanks to Doug for continued support and direction I believe that I can make this a Permanent Life change for me.
